Xoki & Hieronymus: Superwhale b/w Butter Bridge

Xoki & Hieronymus return to ZamZam with two shots of deepest dubwise, hard-as-nails bass and drum workouts for a low-rider Mars rover or a DIY deep sea cruiser.
Active since the early 2000’s, the Copenhagen-based production duo have had numerous solo and joint projects under different names, including three 12” releases as Kolortown with vocalist Nana Jacobi. The duo also ran the now defunct Kyoto_Sound label where they solidified their unique dub stance. With a mixture of tough, bass heavy grooves and extreme FX, the sound drew on the early dub pioneers Tubby and Scientist while also aligning itself with the Berlin school of dub techno. Recently there has been a shift away from computer-based strategies to analog bass and instrumentation.
Since their first vinyl outing on ZamZam a year ago, the duo’s sound has gravitated towards a harder reggae vibe. Where their Deep Recall single was a hazy, psychedelic journey through sax textures, synthetic bleeps and ramshackle metallic percussion – this record is a stark counterpoint. Functional, raw, brutalist and strictly controlled – the emphasis is on internal combustion bass and drum grooves deconstructed with advanced FX experimentation and mesmerizing melodies. The true spirit of 70’s dub production, blasted into low orbit over a watery world.
