Cris Ebdon AKA Ishan Sound is a rising star in the Bristol scene, as a solo artist and as a member of duo Zhou (Punch Drunk) and the Young Echo collective (see their celebrated LP “Nexus”).
Ishan Sound’s tracks inhabit unique, dark spaces where dub, drone, steppers and stripped dancehall meet and fuse. Deceptively simple, these tunes reward careful listening with the fascinating interplay of Ishan’s signature flutes, reverbs, subtle chords and heavily subbed kicks. No question these tunes are built for sound system play, though, and should be heard at floor-shaking volume to reveal their full power and purpose.
Pounded on exclusive dub plate for several months now, Forward and Koma finally receive a proper release, continuing and building ZamZam’s relationship with our favorite UK city & scene. This ZamZam release is Ishan Sound’s first and only under his own moniker since ‘Clash of The Titans’ (Peng! Sound), which was tagged by The Wire as “gorgeous, ghostly reggae, one of Bristol’s most striking recent records.”
